Warwick Assembly is part of the pentecostal cooperative fellowship of the Assemblies of God. This fellowship of sovereign churches was founded in 1914, in order to pull together in spreading the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to the world. Our local church was founded by Pastor David & Julie Peterson in 1986. Their desire was to see a Holy Spirit-filled, life-giving, pentecostal church in the Warwick Valley. Since then it has been our mission to see this vision fulfilled one person at a time.
While Warwick Assembly is sovereign, we are a cooperative church that is part of the pentecostal fellowship called the General Council of the Assemblies of God. This fellowship of churches was founded in 1914, in order to pull together in spreading the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to the world. Below are the main teachings / doctrines of Warwick Assembly. We understand that these are not all the teachings of the Bible, nor do we think these statements are inspired. They are simply what we find essential to ministry. In the non-essential there is room and in all things there is love.
CORE DOCTRINES
THE HOLY BIBLE
Is the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God and the source of Christian belief, teaching, and conduct.
GOD
The one true God has revealed himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM," He has further revealed himself as embodying the principles of relationship and association as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
JESUS CHRIST
Is the virgin-born Son of God and was crucified to take upon Himself the punishment for the sin of all mankind. He arose from the dead; thereby conquering sin, death and the grave. Jesus will personally return to the earth in glory and take Christians to Heaven.
HUMANKIND
Was created in the image of God but fallen – lost and powerless to save himself.
OUR ONLY HOPE
Is to believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
Is the third person of the Godhead, indwells those who receive Christ and empowers believers to live righteous and holy lives. We believe in the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, along with the Gifts of the Spirit found in 1 Corinthians 12. We believe these gifts are available to believers today.
EXPRESSIONS OF FAITH
Water Baptism and Holy Communion are among the ways we celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Every service is an expression of the hope we have in Christ.
HEALING
Consistent with His ministry on earth, Jesus Christ still offers healing for our physical, relational, and emotional needs.
THE CHURCH
The Body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head, is comprised of believers who have been spiritually changed by the atonement of Jesus Christ and the personal work of the Holy Spirit. Christians are called to pursue God’s mission, both collectively and individually. For some it is a vocation, for all it is a passion.
LIFE-CHANGE
When a life is changed by the love of Christ, we begin a journey of becoming like Christ. It is displayed inwardly by joy and peace; outwardly by a life of integrity and service; and relationally by love and grace. Our lives are directed by the commandments found in God’s Word and the leadings of the Holy Spirit.
ETERNITY
Jesus will return and show himself to be King of Kings. No one knows the day or time that he will return. Life as we know it will come to an end and everyone will be held accountable for the choices in their lives. Heaven awaits those who have a personal relationship with God, without the influence of evil and pain. Separation from God (Hell) is filled with sorrow and awaits those who reject Christ as their savior.
